The Mo-Hair Suit

Every year the Movember foundation encourages men to grow a moustache to raise awareness around men’s health issues such as: mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. For the past 4 years, menswear brand POLITIX has been a major partner, the problem was no one knew it.

So to take our support to another level, we created the Mo-Hair suit - a tailored suit created out from moustache hair - and got men talking about their health.

Before men start growing their moustache for Movember, they have to shave down and start from scratch. We asked men around the country to donate this moustache hair to the project. The hair was then collected and woven into fabric by visual artist Pamela Kleemann-Passi. Finally, the two-piece, single-breasted suit was tailored by POLITIX head of design, Paul Burden.

The Mo-Hair Suit attracted attention from news outlets, fashion blogs, podcasts and men’s health websites throughout the World. It was even worn by Today host, Karl Stefanovic, on morning television to an audience of 1.6 million.

We also activated at Melbourne Fashion Week, where members of the public could see the suit on display and hear from the key people behind the project about how the suit was made, but also how to get men talking about their health.
